Development Lead

As the development lead for an in-house developed multi-classification IT system, revolutionising the armed forces’ approach to system capability delivery. Responsible for securely integrating data centre technologies into a deployed networking environment to provide a fully service-managed system with comprehensive network and cyber monitoring. Managing and mentoring a team of 8 engineers of varying skill levels to achieve operational objectives and foster skill development. Oversee the system’s operation across 2 UK hub sites and 86 customer sites. Key Achievements/Projects: Named on King’s Birthday Honours List 2024, awarded individual 3* commendation for work to scale secure remote access to high security UK MoD infrastructure prototype. Architected the system with secure by design and zero trust principles in line with NIST SP 800 series, JSP440 (Defense Manual of Security) and JSP604 (Defense Manual of ICT Security) documentation. Re-designed networking architecture moving in line with service provider standards, significantly enhancing networking security performance. Project manager and technical lead for configuration and installation of redundant system hub, the geo-redundant UK hub locations have maintained 99.3% critical service availability. Provided Tier 4 support for the system, for fault rectification, security incident response, and disaster recovery. Managed and administered an infrastructure comprising 151 physical servers, over 300 network devices, 348 virtual servers, and 201 security devices. Managed the implementation of Corelight, transitioning from existing IDS and PCAP systems, reducing complexity for SOC engineers and enhancing security monitoring capabilities. Implemented CI/CD pipeline to ensure better coding practices and enhanced version control. Implemented enhanced MSSQL, VMware, Windows and Linux automated system/configuration backups with visualisation for Level 1 operators.

Delivered secure deployed IT communications in austere environments, providing vital reach back to the UK infrastructure for high agency air operations. Key Achievements/Projects: Received recognition as the number 1 engineer of 189 personnel within TCW, demonstrating exceptional technical and leadership abilities. Established IPsec VPN links over various network underlays, ensuring reliable and protected IT communications critical for mission success. Effectively liaised with key stakeholders during normal operations and critical fault scenarios, providing timely updates to ensure accurate information dissemination and quick resolution of issues. Implemented secure client distribution utilizing RSA SecurID physical tokens, enhancing authentication processes and network security. Designed and implemented network infrastructures for various operations, ensuring optimal performance and security. Led the resolution of network incidents, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation of critical communication systems. Trained and mentored junior engineers, enhancing team capability and knowledge sharing within the unit.
